"Freewrites" is a collection of new, stream-of-consciousness songs.

In the summer of 2014, I was on a creative winning streak. I had been producing demos for myself, The ILLusionists, and my duo with Ogar Burl.

This productive writing routine was disrupted when I left for the "Blood in the Water" tour, and came home feeling exhausted. After a couple weeks, I decided to jumpstart my creative juices with a freewrite exercise (much like I did with "One Take Lunch Break" in 2011).

I was corresponding with my friend Graves 33, about producing beats for the next Sammy/Burl record. Around this time, he sent me an advance of his new beat tape, "Smoke Filled Rooms."

The beats were beautiful and moody. Graves had painted sonic landscapes that hardly resembled my sparse, boom-bap sensibilities. It was a perfect excuse to break out the pen and just open my mind.

"Smoke Filled Rooms" was released on July 10th and "Freewrites" was written, recorded, mixed, and released by July 25th. There's no polish or second guessing on this one. I hope you enjoy it.

PS - It worked! I'm back on my studio grind in full force!
